Mikel Arteta had been looking to bring a left-footed center-back to the squad after the departure of Pablo Mari left him with Gabriel Magalhaes as his only option in that position. The Gunners are currently sitting atop the Premier League table, five points ahead of Manchester City, who have played one game less. A key factor in their strong performance has been their defense, having conceded only 16 goals in 19 league matches, the second-best record in the division.

Acquiring Kiwior is a logical move for Arsenal, as their first-choice center-backs Gabriel and William Saliba have played in all 19 league games this season, which could lead to fatigue during the latter part of the campaign.
The 22-year-old, who featured in all of Poland’s World Cup matches, is versatile as he can also play as a left-back and holding midfielder. He has been an impressive performer in his 17 appearances for Spezia in the 2022/23 Serie A campaign, with an average of 1.62 blocks, 1.5 interceptions and 1.37 tackles per 90 minutes, as per fbref statistics.
