Christian Atsu the Ghanaian Footballer’s Body Found 12 Days After Building Collapse
Christian Atsu, the 31 year old footballer from Ghana, who played for Chelsea and Newcastle, has been found dead in Hatay(Turkey) on 18th of Feb 2023, following a devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on 6th feb 2023.
Murat Uzunmehmet, Atsu’s agent, confirmed the news on Saturday, February 18, revealing that the footballer’s body had been found under the rubble of a building. At the time of his death, Atsu had been playing for Hatayspor in Hatay, southern Turkey.
According to reports, Atsu had planned to leave Turkey to visit his family, but canceled his flight after scoring a last-minute winner for his team against Kasimpasa the day before the earthquake. The death toll from the earthquake, in Turkey and Syria, has risen to 45,000 with many still missing.
The Christian Atsu played for several clubs during his career, including FC Porto, Vitesse Arnhem, Everton, Bournemouth, and Malaga. He made a total of 62 appearances for the Ghana national team, scoring 10 goals.
