Hridoy turns the match around with 242 not out
Bangladesh began Day 3 at 88/3 and were under pressure as West Indies’ bowlers continued to take wickets. Towhid Hridoy held the innings together, then accelerated with a remarkable range of strokes. He finished unbeaten on 242 from 359 balls, striking 22 fours and 11 sixes.
The innings made Hridoy the highest individual scorer for Bangladesh in Test cricket, moving past Mushfiqur Rahim’s previous national record of 219. It was also his maiden Test century, converted into a double hundred under pressure.
Late partnership gives Bangladesh the lead
Hridoy found crucial support from the lower order, including a 117-run stand for the eighth wicket with Taijul Islam. Taijul contributed 22 before the innings ended at 386, giving Bangladesh a 30-run lead over West Indies’ first-innings 356.
West Indies start the second innings
The visitors began their second innings and reached 7 without loss from four overs before bad light brought an early end to the day’s play. West Indies therefore trail by 23 runs heading into Day 4, with the match still finely balanced.
