Garrett Wilson’s absence changes the Jets’ passing game
Wilson has been ruled out after missing practice with a concussion. He leads the Jets with 65.9 receiving yards per game and has 43 catches, more than twice the total of the next closest player on the Jets’ roster, according to Kansas City’s Week 9 preview.
Without Wilson, New York loses its most productive and reliable target. The remaining receivers will need to create separation, while the coaching staff may lean more heavily on the running game and shorter throws to keep the offense on schedule.
Chiefs get Patrick Mahomes back to full practice
Mahomes was a full participant on Friday despite being listed with a knee designation earlier in the week. Kansas City’s final injury report lists defensive tackle Peter Woods, cornerback Mansoor Delane and defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott as out. Wide receiver Nikko Remigio is questionable.
The Chiefs have lost their previous two games, falling to Seattle and Denver, and return home looking to respond. Their 5–2 record keeps them in a strong position, but another home defeat would add pressure as the AFC race develops.
What Kansas City needs to do
The Chiefs can make Wilson’s absence matter by forcing the Jets into long-yardage situations and challenging the depth of the receiving group. Offensively, Kansas City will look to use Mahomes’ distribution and the home crowd to regain its rhythm after the two-game skid.
What New York needs to do
The Jets need to avoid predictable passing situations without Wilson. A productive ground game and quick completions can help reduce the burden on the remaining receivers. Defensively, New York must limit explosive plays and make Kansas City earn points through sustained drives.
