To provide more flexibility to the game of cricket a new rule of Impact player has been introduced in this year’s IPL.
What is the new rule of impact player?
Each team has to provide a list of 15 players, not 11, at the time of toss, out of these 4 extra players, one of them can acts as an impact player. The impact player can replace any existing player before the 14th over. But if, due to any reason, the game is of 10-10 overs then impact player will not come into the picture.
Who nominate the impact player?
Only captain can nominate the impact player, in case if a captain is out of the field then the acting captain can nominate the impact player.
Can impact player be an overseas player?
The playing 11 can have maximum of 4 overseas players. In case if there are less than 4 overseas players in the the playing 11, then only overseas player can be an impact player, otherwise Indian players are the impact players.
How many impact players can each team have?
Only one impact player can be used per match by each team.
When impact player be introduced in the game?
The Impact Player can be introduced before the start of the innings, or after an over is completed but it must be before 14th over so that he can complete his 4 over if a he is a bowler. If impact player is replacing a batsman, it can be brought in at the fall of a wicket or if a batsman is retiring.
Can the player, replaced by the impact player, remain available for the remaining match?
No, the Player, who is replaced by an Impact Player, can no longer remain available for the remaining match, nor it can take part as a substitute fielder.
Can an impact player acts as a captain?
No, he can not acts as a captain, but he can play any role on the field.
What happen if the impact player is injured?
The current rule for the injury remains the same for the impact player also. If umpires are satisfied that a fielder has been injured or becomes ill during the match, a substitute fielder is allowed to field in place of an injured player. The substitute shall not bowl or act as captain.
Can the bowling team have an impact player?
Yes, The bowling team can have an Impact Player during the fall of the wicket, but he will not be permitted to bowl the remaining balls of the over if the wicket has fallen mid-over.
Is it compulsory to use impact player?
No, it is not compulsory to use the impact player, this is just an option to increase the strength of the team.
