How the IPL points system works

  • Win: 2 points.
  • No result or abandoned match: 1 point to each team under the competition’s points rules.
  • Loss: 0 points.
  • Tied on points: net run rate and other applicable tournament playing conditions determine the order.

NRR measures a team’s aggregate scoring rate minus the aggregate rate at which it concedes runs across matches counted in the table. It is not calculated by simply averaging match-by-match NRRs. There are specific rules when an innings ends early because a side is all out, and adjusted calculations may apply in rain-affected matches. Read our guide: How to Calculate Net Run Rate (NRR) in Cricket.

Who finished in the playoff places?

RCB, Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad all finished on 18 points, with net run rate placing them first, second and third respectively. Rajasthan Royals took the fourth playoff place with 16 points. Punjab Kings finished fifth on 15 points; their +0.309 NRR was positive, but they did not finish in the top four.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru went on to win the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans on May 31, 2026, winning by five wickets. The league table above is separate from the playoff results.
